I have been an Allied insurance customer for both Auto and home for years. I never had a problem until I attempted to review my homeowner's policy in November 2009. They told me that my coverage had been dropped since October 2007. I was shocked and immediately dug through all my payment records at home. Turns out I paid them in full (electronically via Wells Fargo) for home insurance both in October 2007 and then AGAIN in November 2007 (with an additional $5 'late fee') . I then pulled my files for a few months later and noticed that they refunded both of my payments sighting that I overpaid my auto insurance (by the exact amount of my home insiurance bill). At the time I took it as face value, that i really had overpaid my auto insurance and thought nothing of it.
Fast forward to 11/20/09 - I provided Allied insurance with the records of my attempt to pay my home insurance (twice) as well as the check stubs related to the refund. And asked that they work on getting me a new policy as soon as possible because I felt unsafe not having coverage. They didn't bother to call me back, so I called them on 11/30. They told me that they WILL NOT write a new policy at all and that they refuse to cover me. Why ? Simply due to the fact that I have not been coverd for two years. They explained that the payments were made with the 'auto account # and not the home account #' and that there was nothing they could do. This despite having proof that I tried to make the payment, twice! On their statments they advise to write a flex check and "go green", but this is apparently what happens when you do.
I was very polite on the phone, despite my frustration, and I will be going to the BBB as well as the local attorney general's office. Please be careful when selecting your home insurance. DO NOT USE ALLIED HOME INSURANCE unless you want a nightmare scenario on your hands. Their prices seem reasonable until you factor in the lack of customer service coupled with completely UNETHICAL policies.

I originally switched from State Farm (rip off) to Allied due to the lower rate. Allied has a $5.00 per month per policy "service charge" fee. I was two days late with a payment one time and they charged me a $10.00 "reinstatement fee" even though I was AHEAD on monthly payments! They also put coverage on my auto policy that I never asked for (towing) . That cost me alot. Very deceptive businees practice. I am actively looking for a new Insurance company. BTW .. all these extra fees and I've never even made a claim! Oh, and they keep raising my rates with no explaination. They have no local agents. You can't talk to anyone face to face. Not good. I'm dumping them fast !

There prices are the lowest I've found. However, I don't know anything about their customer service, yet.
