Total frustration to a happy ending

Posted by BGA on June 28, 2011

After being a customer of Allied with both home and automobile coverage for 15 years, we received a form letter yesterday that our home owners policy would not be renewed. The reasons cited were 3 claims within the past 5 years. (one was a lightening strike hitting two 40-ft.+ trees...oh, sorry, Allied, I should have been more careful where to direct that lightening to hit!) I called Allied to reconsider, and they would not budge. Everyone be aware that any claim you make is put in a data base for all insurance companies to see, and you receive an insurance credit score. After doing some research, and calling several "big" insurance companies, all I received was, "sorry, we can't cover you." A lady with Allstate said they could not do it, but she gave me a reference to call. He saved the day. Farm Bureau. Now we have a real agent to talk to, rather than an 800 number. He said any claims that are unrelated (not the same problem year after year) do not risk premium going up or coverage. To top it off, his rates were better than Allied, which was icing on the cake. All I wanted was to make sure our home was insured, no matter what the cost. When I called Allied tonight to cancel both policies, the guy asked if I was cancelling the auto policy because of a better rate to "bundle" with our new insurance. I told him, "No, the reason I am cancelling auto is that if this is the way you treat loyal customers, I am not sending you another dime. BUT, the new rates are better than yours, but I would have paid double what I was paying Allied." I also told him I would NOT recommend them to anyone. Thanks, Allied. Most of my day was spent in tears and panic, but it had a happy ending.
