USAA on a Down Hill Slide

When I first Joined USAA around 1995 (You join because it is an association) they were the premier insurance company in the nation for price and customer service. You couldn't beat them on any product. Fast forward to the present however, and USAA is on a downward spiral. Their prices have increased, while their customer service is steadily decreasing. I recently had to file a roof claim due to 3" hail. The first adjuster told me he could only pay for minor repairs. Meanwhile I was walking around my property picking up huge pieces of shingle and roofing material. I filled two trash bins with the pieces of "minor" damage. After several angry calls I got USAA to agree to send out another adjuster who did eventually total the roof, but years ago I never would have had to argue with them about any of this and everything would have been taken care of quickly and easily with out me saying a word. I hesitantly recommend them to those eligible for membership (Military members and families) but caveat with "do your homework"; State Farm or Allstate could probably give just as good a deal.
