Thought they had my back - I had wrong.....

Posted by Hodel on March 28, 2011

I had service with Liberty Mutual for almost 10 years. I even had a couple of incidents where they seemed to take care of me pretty well over those 10 years. This year, after insistent urging from a family member, I checked out USAA Insurance. I called USAA and received a quote - which astounded me! It was LESS than HALF what Liberty was charging me! $150/mo to $70! I could not believe it!

After switching (of COURSE), I called Liberty to cancel. Keep in mind, that for 10 years I have had Auto + Home + Life with them.....loyal and never a late payment! They asked why I wanted to cancel & I informed them of the new rate I was receiving with USAA, which they said they could not match. Wow, so much for 10 years of loyalty - I guess it only goes 1-way!

When I did speak to a Branch Representative, she said something about past info with some points on my husbands license. WHICH was a speeding ticket, dropped to under 5-mi over.....NO POINTS. Well, they said the last record they had showed points (note this is State of GA, and we have been in NC for 2 years now). USAA saw no such points on a record (which would carry over if there were). Also, after 2 years of being in NC, Liberty had not changed our Drivers Licenses over (I had called my agent twice to insure they had the new info). Well, they had it, but said that they still went by the GA-License because it had points on it.......WHAT!!!?? It sounded illegal to me, personally, just can't be right. Well, in addition to overcharging me for, oh maybe 3+ years, they now wanted me to pay a cancellation fee of over $200! YOU MUST BE KIDDING ME LIBERTY!

So I have had an attorney draw up a letter about NOT paying them a dime, and I threatended to take it to court if they put anything on my credit report. I am in totall disbelief STILL. I moved my Homeowners next, and it was over $300 per yer LESS. WTF!? Life is next! I will not give money to Liberty any longer - and urge you to not as well!
