As long as I never had a claim State Farm was great. My husband and I have never had traffic violations, accidents or claims until a year ago. My son who was 16 pulled out of school, across a 4 lane and a vehicle made a sudden lane change that put him in the path of my son. Speed zone for school was 25. The guys vehicle was totaled with the motor crammed in th cab. Hard to believe that kind of damage at 25 mph. Not. I questioned if fault should have been shared at some level but my insurance company told me thats the way it is. I accepted this but in December of same year my son was involved in a second accident I was left wandering just how insurance companys work. My son was at a stop light, behind a vehicle and when the light turned green the vehicle proceeded but slammed on its breaks to avoid a third, unknown car that ran the stop light. My son hit his break and tried to avoid the accident but hit his bumper and left a small shallow dent without harming paint or anything else. An officer came by soon afterward and stopped to take a report. The guy driving the other vehicle said it was so insignificant that he had no plans to report it. The officer said he was not going to fault anyone due to circamstances and report he got from both parties. Over a week later I got a call that a claim had been made from that accident and the damage was estimated over 1200.00. I was shocked that such a small dent, hardly noticable could cost so much. The description of damage did not match and I voiced this. I didnt hear anything for several weeks until I got a letter stating my son would be dropped from coverage due to the two accidents. Note he has never had any other violations. I asked my agent about the police report and pictures to make sure the claim was ligitimate and he said no they didnt require them????? So can anyone walk in off the street and make a claim that affects someone else like this. I feel like I was violated. My agent said they would keep him on and quoted me about $200 a month for liability only. In addition the policy that has my husbands truck on it is being charged surcharges for the January accident and he no longer gets a discount for accident free. When I asked why that was being charged I was told that the policy on his truck was the policy that was transferred from the truck involved in the accident and the accident follows the policy???
